High School Counseling

Our dedicated counselors are committed to guiding and supporting students through every step of the college counseling journey. From exploring academic and extracurricular interests to navigating the world of college applications and admissions, our counselors provide assistance tailored to each student's specific goals. Our counselors work with students on course selection, monitor progress toward graduation, and ensure students have competitive applications required for college admissions.

CAK counselors provide special oversight for seniors as they navigate the details of college, scholarship, and the financial aid application process. Beginning in 9th grade, students are introduced to Scoir, our college application platform. Students can search for good-fit schools, learn about each school, and create an application using Scoir.

  • Assessments

We offer an ACT Prep course to prepare students for the ACT test, which is offered in the fall and spring at CAK.

All students in grades 9-11 take the PSAT each fall to help prepare for high-stakes testing. Additionally, students can qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the PSAT in their junior year.

CAK's counseling program uses personality and interest assessments within the Scoir platform to help students consider careers that may be a good fit for them.
  • Planning Process

We support all aspects of the student's planning process for life after high school. Students have the opportunity to speak with dozens of college admissions officers who visit CAK throughout the year. In addition, students can speak with representatives from the armed services and register to vote in their senior year.
  • Student Activities

High school students begin the year with a retreat where they can bond with each other while participating in outdoor activities. Throughout the year, high school students have a myriad of opportunities to get involved in, including athletics, clubs, service opportunities, social gatherings such as Winter Formal and Prom, and summer opportunities, such as TN Governor's School.
  • Student Support

Counselors support students by asking questions, listening attentively, and following up with students with recommendations and suggestions. One high school counselor works with students in grades 9 and 10, and another counselor focuses on students in grades 11 and 12.
