Faculty Spotlight: Katy McKinney

Today, we are shining our spotlight on Katy McKinney, a first-grade teacher in the elementary school! This is Mrs. McKinney's second year at CAK.

We asked Katy a few questions:
Why do you choose to work/teach at CAK?
I firmly believe in an education that aligns with a Biblical worldview. I love that I get to share the gospel with my students every day and lead them toward loving Jesus in all that they do and say.

Tell us about your family.
I have been married to Mark for 22 years. Mark is a civil engineer with Barge Design Solutions and focuses on water. He loves to travel all over the world, helping with water-related problems. We are blessed with four amazing children: Drew, Mary Helen, Eliza, and Katherine. Drew recently graduated from high school and is spending this school year with Adventure in Missions doing their World Race Gap Year program. He's currently living in Cambodia and moving to Thailand soon. Mary Helen is a junior at CAK, Eliza is in 8th grade, and Katherine is a 7th grader. All the girls are very involved in campus life. We are busy and blessed.

What do you enjoy most about teaching at CAK?
I enjoy partnering with like-minded parents in educating their children. I LOVE the other educators I have the privilege of working alongside...I am so blessed by my co-workers.

Why did you choose your specific area of study?
I absolutely love to teach children how to read. It is my greatest joy to see that lightbulb moment when it all begins to click.

What do you like to do in your free time?
I don't have much free time...but when I do, I love spending time with my family, reading, walking with friends, and spending time outside. I also adore traveling, broadway musicals, and watching movies.
